Private Client Wealth Management

Our advice strategy focuses on the three cornerstones of investment philosophy – attitude to risk, tax efficiency and asset allocation. Once we have understood and agreed these, we can tailor your portfolio using a blend of investment management solutions. Your adviser will also have included their observations from previous discussions on your investment objectives, as well as timescales for investing.

The value of investments and any income from them can fall as well as rise.  You may not get back the amount originally invested.

Attitude to risk

The most vital part of any recommendations we make is understanding your tolerance of investment risk in line with your capacity to recover from – or take advantage of – volatility in the markets.

Your adviser will go through a psychometric risk questionnaire that will form the basis of a discussion on the varying levels of risk in line with the type of investment your adviser is recommending to you. It is likely that your adviser will vary their recommendations, so as to allow your agreed strategy of short and long-term goals to be achieved. Once we have agreed and understood your investment risk tolerance, your adviser will create a portfolio that follows an industry acknowledged asset allocation strategy.

Asset Allocation

When investing for the medium to long-term, the balance of asset classes can be the most influential factor in determining the return you will achieve as well as the level of risk you are taking. Our advisers not only look at the investments you are currently discussing, but will aim to align it with other funds and asset classes you hold in order to try and achieve an overall portfolio that reflects your investment profile.

Investments

There are a number of investment wrappers available and your adviser will go through the different advantages and disadvantages with you before recommending the most appropriate choices for your strategy. It does pay to spend some time on this aspect of your planning, as the financial market solutions are constantly changing and new ideas and concepts are always considered.

Your adviser can help you navigate through the wealth of choices available to you and focus on tailoring your portfolio solution to your personal objectives, giving you advice and recommendation on a number of investment vehicles including:

Private Client Solutions

Throughout discussions with you, we will come to an understanding of how you wish your wealth to be managed. Whether you are investing for retirement through a pension or into an investment wrapper for capital growth or income, your adviser will go through the various different wrapper  options available to you.

We will have a detailed discussion of risk with you, as well as an understanding of timescales and access to capital sums. This, along with the risk questionnaire, will help us agree on which of the  management options are the most suited to your objectives.

Passive Funds

The argument of Passive or Active Managed funds has run for many years. What is beyond dispute is that passive funds offer a very cost effective solution without the cost of  a fund manager.

These funds track the performance of an index or range of indices and  we offer advice on a range of risk rated funds that can be used in isolation or to provide a passive element to a wider portfolio.

Active Funds

Active funds use the services of a fund manager backed by a team of researchers to manage a portfolio on behalf of the client. Some are run by single managers whilst others take a team based approach.

We offer advice on a wide range of risk based funds. They can be single specialist funds, investing in a single asset type or geographical area, or a broader mixed fund blending assets from across the world.

There are also a number of multi manager funds, where a blend of funds are brought together from a range of fund houses in order to produce a best of breed solution.

Model Portfolios

Model portfolios provide a complete risk based solution. A range of funds are blended together to provide a portfolio of mixed assets from a number of fund managers.

These funds are re-balanced on a regular basis to ensure that the portfolio remains true to the original risk rating and reflect changes that occur in the world markets and through economic cycles.

Discretionary Fund Management

Discretionary fund managers manage portfolios on behalf of the client. These can be tailored to suit individual requirement and again, are based on the risk rating of the client.

As with all our solutions they can be standalone solutions representing the entirety of the portfolio or a part of the overall solution run in such a way as to complement and produce the correct overall mixture of asset classes and management styles.

Investment Management Platform

One of the most effective and sophisticated ways of designing an investment solution strategy is the use of a platform (wrap) that allows us to manage your investment portfolio in an efficient and effective manner.

A platform is a secure, online account that brings all of your investment and pensions together, allowing you to view them in a single environment.

Your investments, including stocks, shares, ISAs, Self Invested Pension Plans (SIPPs), onshore and offshore bonds, and collective investments can all be seen as a whole, thereby allowing us to create a seamless portfolio of investments that fully interacts with each part of itself.

The wrap solution is particularly powerful in achieving lower initial charges and discounted annual management charges, thereby allowing your investment to grow in a less heavily charged arena.
